Wagering Requirements Explained
By WCC Review Desk · Fact-checked · Updated June 2026
A big welcome bonus is only as good as its wagering requirement (also called playthrough or rollover). This is the single most important number to check before depositing at any Canadian online casino — it determines whether you can actually withdraw what you win with bonus money.
What "35x wagering" actually means
The multiplier tells you how many times you must wager the bonus before a withdrawal is allowed. Example: a 100% match up to CAD 1,000 with 35x wagering means you must place CAD 35,000 in total bets (CAD 1,000 × 35) before cashing out bonus winnings. Watch for whether the requirement applies to the bonus only or bonus + deposit — the latter doubles your effective playthrough.
💡 Quick formula
Total to wager = Bonus amount × Wagering multiplier. Always divide the bonus's value by how much real play it demands — a smaller bonus at 20x can beat a huge bonus at 50x.
Game contributions matter
Not every game counts equally. A typical contribution table looks like this:
| Slots | 100% |
| Crash games (Aviator, etc.) | 10%–50% (varies) |
| Roulette | 10%–20% |
| Blackjack | 5%–10% |
If blackjack contributes 10%, then CAD 100 wagered only counts as CAD 10 toward your requirement. That's why slots are usually the fastest way to clear a bonus.
What counts as a fair requirement?
As a rule of thumb: 20x–35x is fair, 40x is on the higher side, and 50x+ is demanding. Also check the time limit (many bonuses expire in 7–30 days), the max bet while wagering (often CAD 5), and any max cash-out cap on winnings.
⚠️ Before you deposit
Read the full bonus terms, not just the headline. A 500% bonus with 50x wagering and a max bet rule can be harder to clear than a modest 100% match at 30x.

Both of our top-rated Canadian casinos publish their bonus terms clearly. Compare them in our 1win review (500% across four deposits) and Baloo2 review (100% CAD match, 35x–40x).
